After majoring in Sociology as an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley, Steven earned his PhD in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His next stop was at the University of Notre Dame as a postdoctoral researcher in the Center for Research on Educational Opportunity and he is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Cornell University. Steven's research examines disparities in educational and health outcomes among racial and ethnic minorities and seeks to uncover how the contextual sources of those disparities (e.g., schools and neighborhoods) exacerbate or ameliorate inequality in society.
