The University of Notre Dame’s Institute for Educational Initiatives invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate levels with a joint appointment in Center for Research on Educational Opportunity (CREO) and the Department of Sociologybeginning August 2018. We seek candidates with a rigorous research program in sociology of education and with excellent teaching skills. The Institute particularly seeks applications from minorities, women, Catholics and all those who are attracted to a university with a Catholic identity. The Institute strives to improve the education of all youth, particularly the disadvantaged. Its teaching, scholarship, and service reflect Notre Dame's commitment to advance K-12 schooling. Distinguished scholars and practitioners, including over 80 Institute Fellows across the University, pursue interdisciplinary collaborations to make a difference in crucial areas of education reform, with particular attention to Catholic schools and generating positive outcomes for disadvantaged students. Resources for educational excellence include a wide array of distinctive graduate-level programs that form teachers and leaders. For example, modeled after existing IES pre-doctoral training programs, Notre Dame’s Program for Interdisciplinary Educational Research program trains students to conduct rigorous research on educational practices, programs, and policies from an interdisciplinary perspective. Students are provided a Burns Fellowship, which offers a stipend for up to five years and professional development funding for research and travel. To maximize its impact, the Institute relies on its communication team to disseminate information related to its faculty, programs, and products through its websites, books, articles, reports, op-eds, and social media. 

As one of the Institute’s research centers CREO focuses on K-16+ education by examining the formal and informal organization of schools, the curriculum, teacher practices, and student social relationships to determine how these factors interact with student background and prior achievement to affect student outcomes. Committed to social justice, CREO gives special attention to disadvantaged students and Catholic schools. CREO offers a continuing lecture series addressing contemporary issues in education, underwrites workshops and symposia, initiates and coordinates research projects among faculty, and sponsors faculty exchanges, postdoctoral fellowships and graduate training in areas related to the CREO mission.
